Anwar Uddin (Bengali: আনোয়ার উদ্দিন; born 1 November 1981) was the first person of Bangladeshi origin to play professional football in England, and became the first British Asian to captain a football club in the top four divisions of English football.



He began his football career at West Ham United, working his way up through their youth and reserve teams where he was captain. Although highly regarded, as a bright talented traditional English defender, he was never able to break through into the first team.

Anwar was just one of only five professional British Asians playing in the Football League and Premiership, where it is estimated that Asians only make up 0.2 per cent of players in clubs' centres of excellence and academies.


In 2011, Anwar Uddin was appointed as caretaker assistant-manager to Giuliano Grazioli at Barnet making him the first ever British-Asian to take up a coaching position in English football.

In June 2013, Uddin retired from football and left Eastbourne in order to pursue a career in football coaching.

In January 2017, he was appointed manager of Ware Football Club. However, he left the club in March. In October 2017 he became manager of Glebe.



Shahed Ahmed was born in Tower HamletsEast London, and is of Bangladesh descent. 

he has started his football journey as a youth player at at Wimbledon. In 2004 Ahmed signed a professional contract with Wycombe WanderersHe made four appearances in The Football League for Wycombe, and scored one goal in the 2–0 victory against Kidderminster Harriers in August 2004. 

Shahed Ahmed  can play for either Bangladesh or England as a Bangladeshi roots and British residency. In January 2010, he was invited by the Bangladesh Football Federation to represent Bangladesh at the 2010 South Asian Games; but due to his exams he was unable to do so .
In February 2011, Ahmed joined Sporting Bengal United in the Essex Senior Football League, and later became club captain.




Hamza Dewan Choudhury (Bengali: হামজা দেওয়ান চৌধুরী; born 1 October 1997).

 father is Grenadian and his mother is of Bangladeshi descent. Hamza has stated Regarding his ethnicity : "Both my parents are Bangladeshi and I have been brought up in an Asian family, but I have Caribbean blood in me as my dad is from Grenada. We have a massive family"

Hamza Choudhury began his career at the Leicester City Academy, and at the age of 16 was reportedly monitored by a number of top European clubs.
He made his debut in the Football League later on 27 February 2016, coming on as a 77th-minute substitute for Tom Naylor in a 0–0 draw with Walsall at the Pirelli Stadium.
On 19 September 2017, Choudhury debuted for Leicester City coming on as substitute in the 82nd minute of a EFL Cup 3rd round home win against Liverpool. On 28 November 2017, Choudhury made his Premier League debut for Leicester coming on as substitute in the 83rd minute of a home win against Tottenham. His first Premier League start came on 14 April 2018, in a 2–1 away defeat to Burnley.


On 26 May 2018, Hamza Choudhury made his debut for the England national under-21 football team, coming on as a substitute during the 2–1 win against China under-21 in the 2018 Toulon Tournament. Choudhury started for England in the next match of the tournament, a 0–0 draw against Mexico.
