Ejaz Patel is only the third bowler in history to take 10 wickets in an innings in a Test. Only Jim Laker (1956) in England and Anil Kumble (1999) in India have done so before in the 144-year history. Patel made a name for himself in the history of cricket. Today, New Zealand left-arm spinner Ejaz Patel sits next to the two legends on the list.

But the story of Ejaz Patel is not limited to this. With 10 wickets for 119 runs, the Kiwi spinner got a taste of all the more forgotten records.

Ejaz has surpassed Muralitharan's fame

Richard Hadley had the best bowling record in Tests for New Zealand. The unique feat of taking 9 wickets for 52 runs in Brisbane in 1985 is the second-best in New Zealand from today. Muttiah Muralitharan's 5 for 51 in Kandy in 2002 is now the second best in another field. Muralitharan made a name for himself at home in his hometown of bowling. Ejaz broke the record as soon as he started playing on the opponent's field. Although he played for New Zealand, he was born in Mumbai.

After Jim Laker, in first-class cricket, someone took 10 wickets in the first innings

Kumble and Laker's fame in the second innings of the opponent. Meanwhile, Ejaz took 10 wickets in India's first innings. And the previous two celebrities were right-handed. Patel was the first left-hander to take 10 wickets in a Test.

The last bowler to take 10 wickets in first-class cricket was in 2001. Debashish Mohanty took 10 wickets for the South in the Duleep Trophy match. One of his victims of that day, Rahul Dravid, saw the fame of Ejaz Patel from the dressing room today.

The last time a spinner took 10 wickets in the first innings of a first-class match was 65 years ago. That fame belongs to Jim Laker. Two months before taking 10 wickets in the Manchester Test, Laker (8/10) took 10 wickets for Australia. The last record of any left-arm spinner was in 1921. Gloucestershire's Charlie Parker took 10 for 69 against Somerset. After Parker, in the last 100 years of first-class cricket, no left-arm bowler, whether pacer or spinner, has taken 10 wickets in the first innings.
